British explorer Bear Grylls is famous as a survival expert and for his Man vs Wild television series for Discovery Channel. He grew up on the Isle of Wight, UK, where his father taught him to climb and sail. Trained from a young age in martial arts, Grylls spent three years as a soldier in the British Special Forces, serving with 21 SAS.
Despite breaking his back in three places following a free-fall parachuting accident in Africa, Grylls went on to become one of the youngest climbers ever to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
He has led record-breaking expeditions from Antarctica to the Arctic, in the process raising over $2.5million for charities. He was appointed the youngest-ever worldwide Chief Scout, received an honorary commission as a Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Navy and has written 10 books.
Grylls will mentor Alex Woodford, winner of Land Rover’s gruelling Next Generation Explorer competition as she participates in an epic adventure where she will experience first-hand the survival skills he has made famous.
