Because large gatherings are not permitted under enforced lockdown rules in South Africa where the ceremony is normally held, the annual awards were held via an online streaming platform so that importers could attend remotely and safely.
The event was hosted by popular South African celebrity and Jaguar Ambassador Minnie Dlamini, together with Jaguar Land Rover South Africa and sub-Sahara Africa Managing Director, Richard Gouverneur.
The awards, which highlight the efforts of Jaguar Land Rover’s retail network across the continent are given to importers that rank highest in a number of scoring categories for business performance, including vehicle sales volumes, sales of parts and accessories and maintaining Jaguar Land Rover’s required customer service standards.
The coveted title of Jaguar Land Rover sub-Sahara Africa Importer of the Year 2019 went to Axess Mauritius.
Despite not being physically present, all recipients of trophies in various categories were still able to accept their awards virtually. An augmented reality app which was accessed via individual smartphones, allowed winners to view and hold trophies almost instantaneously after each award announcement.
