When the All-New Land Rover Discovery launched in South Africa, earlier this year, customers from around the country were taken on an unforgettable test drive experience at Discovery Park. At this purpose-built obstacle course they were able to safely push the newest member of the Discovery family to its limits. Those who pushed hardest – and recorded the moment with a selfie and the #AllNewDiscovery hashtag – stood a chance of winning a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Peru, for a Land Rover Discovery experience like no other.

The South African winner of this competition was Joe Fleming, from Johannesburg. His epic selfie submission earned him and his friend, Alan, an all-expenses-paid adventure to Peru, where they spent a week exploring the mountainous South American country.

Joe and Alan were hosted by the global Land Rover Experience instructors, whose decades of experience helped the expedition guests cross monstrous sand dunes, climb twisty roads up 4 500-metre-high mountains, and crawl through dense, muddy jungles – exactly the kind of terrain that Discovery was built to conquer.

With a Discovery of their own for this awesome adventure in the Andes, the duo of friends covered over 1 500 kilometres over five days of driving, visiting some of Peru’s most iconic and scenic locations. Long days behind the wheel were punctuated by overnight stops in Peru’s famous towns and hidden gems, including Cusco, Pisco and Huancayo, with accommodation ranging from beach-side resorts to plush hotels.

"I'd like to consider myself someone who is well-travelled and has been on some amazing adventures in my life, but the Land Rover Experience trip to Peru was by far my greatest adventure to date. It got me excited for many more Land Rover adventures to come!"said Fleming.

Of course, this was a five-star Land Rover adventure. Joe, Alan and other attendees had access to a mechanic who drove a specially kitted-out Discovery support vehicle; an expedition doctor; a chef; and even knowledgeable local guides, who knew about everything from Machu Picchu to village customs.

"Anything that we needed, we asked for and it would be provided. I truly miss the team that was on our trip. They were from all over the world and they were some great people who I plan to keep in touch with. I terribly miss the Land Rover Discovery that became our trusted friend during this trip. My current car is miles behind it!" said Fleming
